I hold a position of Lake Kivu chemistry specialist in Lake Kivu monitoring program (LKMP). Lake Kivu Monitoring Program is a research for environmental impact assessment project. The program was established in 2008, under the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure together with Methane gas extraction in Lake Kivu.. LKMP was created with the purpose of ensuring the safe and sustainable methane extraction in Lake Kivu. Its initial goals were to ensure the safety of gas extraction facilities’ personnel and surrounding inhabitants from both facilities malfunction and lake gas out busts. The second goal was to protect Lake Ecosystem against threats induced by inappropriate methane gas extraction and waste re-injection processes. The last goal was economical optimization whereby LKMP would advise and act for energy gain optimization, providing knowledge and control against resource dilution and to detect the gas loss.
